BMW i in a nutshell.
THE CITY MOBILITY CONCEPT.
BMW i.
BMW i is a comprehensive and ground-breaking concept for
sustainable mobility. It represents visionary electric vehicles and mobility
services, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium that is strongly
defined by sustainability.
And it thrills with its innovative vehicles: the
all-electric BMW i3, a locally emission-free car for city driving that is
sustainably designed throughout, and the BMW i8 as the most progressive sports
car.
Born electric: with the BMW i mobility concept, everyday
travel can be 100 % electric and a pleasure before, during and after each
journey. Because BMW i thinks beyond the vehicle – and leaves nothing to be
desired with its innovative mobility services.

Intermodal routing
If alternative means of transport will take you to your
destination faster, you will be offered intermodal routing solutions on your
navigation system. Stations and timetables will appear in the display, and to
continue your journey smoothly with public transport, you then simply leave
your vehicle in a Park + Ride car park.
The BMW i navigation unit will direct you to the parking
spot and then show you how your journey by public transport goes on from there.
And when on foot, too, you will be directed conveniently by the BMW i Remote
App.
You can currently use the Connected Mobility solutions in
the following countries and cities: Germany (Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig,
Düsseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt), Austria (Vienna), Netherlands (Amsterdam),
Denmark (Copenhagen), Norway (Oslo), Sweden (Stockholm), France (Paris), United
Kingdom (London), Italy (Rome), China (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhan), Taiwan
(Taipeh).

BMW i3 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The navigation system for the BMW i3, with its
connected BMW i ConnectedDrive Services was specially developed for making
driving with the BMW i3 as easy and convenient as possible. At the heart of the
BMW i is the Range Assistant with dynamic range map.
This takes into account
all relevant factors for routing: battery charge level, driving style, traffic
situation and topographical condition of the route, and shows the most
efficient route based on these factors. This ensures that you reach your
planned destination as quickly and efficiently as possible with the current
battery charge.
Another revolution in navigation routing: If you are able to
reach your destination more quickly using alternative transport such as the
underground or rapid-transit train, the BMW i Navigation will take these into
account and show you the most current schedules and guide you to an available
parking space near the respective stop.*

With the BMW i Remote App for iOS and Android, you can
receive detailed information about the current status of the BMW i3 at any
time.
This includes, for example, range display, battery condition and charge
level, service messages and also the vehicle location. The climate control of
the passenger cell and the high-voltage battery can be activated before the
journey via smartphone so that the BMW i3 is already set to the ideal
temperature when you enter the vehicle and to ensure that the performance of
the high-voltage battery is optimised.
The BMW i Remote App Also supports your
route planning. Important goals, such as available charging stations can easily
be sent to the vehicle before starting the journey.
Simon Euringer, Head of BMW i ConnectedDrive,
at Telematics Update 2013 .
Every great pioneering achievement has its own story. In the
case of the BMW i8, it begins in 2008 with the launch of Project i – and with
no lesser objective than the reinvention of urban mobility.
Just one year
later, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept showed what a technology leader
geared fully toward energy saving can look like.
BMW i Concept, 2011.
This was the basis that gave rise to the BMW Concept i8, which demonstrated in near-production-ready form where the development would lead.
All available BMW EfficientDynamics technologies were already united within this vehicle, an intelligent lightweight concept had been implemented, and the idea of a sports car for the future was already detectable.
BMW i8, 2015.
Series production of the BMW i8 marks the current peak of
the development: a plug-in hybrid with the appearance and the breathtaking
performance of a sports car, which at the same time exhibits the consumption
and emissions of a compact car.
